Developing Strong Research Groups: Responding to the Goals of Resolution 57-NQ/TW on Breakthroughs in Science, Technology, Innovation, and National Digital Transformation

To further strengthen and invest in the University’s scientific research activities, on February 28, 2025, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) held a formal ceremony to announce the establishment of strong research groups. Five strong research groups were formed, including: Advanced Intelligent Technology Research Group-AITECH) under the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering; Group of Applied Research in Advanced Materials for Sustainable Development – FASAM under the Faculty of Applied Sciences; Analytical and Algebraic Methods in Optimization Research Group – AAMO under the Faculty of Mathematics and Statistics; Mechanics of Advanced Materials and Structures – MAMS and Laboratory of Biophysics – BP under the Institute for Advanced Study in Technology.

This marks a significant step in implementing the University’s Fourth Five-Year Development Plan (2025–2030) while aligning with the goals of Resolution 57-NQ/TW of the Politburo on breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation, as well as Conclusion No. 91-KL/TW on comprehensive and fundamental education reform.

The event was attended by Dr. Tran Trong Dao, Chairman of the Science and Training Council, and President of TDTU, along with members of the University’s Presidential Board, the University Council, leaders of various Faculties and Departments, members of the newly established research groups, and lecturers and researchers working at the University.

Speaking at the announcement ceremony, Dr. Tran Trong Dao emphasized: “The establishment of these strong research groups marks an important step in our University’s science and technology development strategy. It also demonstrates our commitment to systematic and in-depth investment in building a solid research foundation that meets international standards.”

Furthermore, he stated: “These strong research groups not only bring together outstanding lecturers and researchers within the University but also serve as a bridge connecting with experts and scientists both domestically and internationally. The synergy between our internal intellectual resources and international experts will create a breakthrough in research, application, and technology transfer.”

The strong research groups were established with the mission of fostering innovation, conducting cutting-edge research, and transferring technology to develop advanced technological solutions and build a robust science and technology foundation. These interdisciplinary groups were formed by consolidating 22 existing research groups/laboratories within the University, all of which have outstanding research capabilities and are led by reputable scientists in advanced scientific and technological fields.

In recent years, Ton Duc Thang University has achieved remarkable accomplishments in scientific research. These achievements have not only enhanced the University’s reputation but also significantly contributed to the advancement of science and technology and the training of high-quality human resources for the country. As a result, TDTU continues to maintain and achieve high rankings in international and regional university rankings, leading among Vietnamese higher education institutions in several rankings: Top 100 (Rank 95/1,023) in interdisciplinary scientific research according to THE Interdisciplinary Science Rankings 2025; Top 200 young universities worldwide (Rank 179/1,172) according to THE Young University Rankings 2024; Top 200 best universities in Asia (Rank 193/1,127) according to THE Asia University Rankings 2024, etc.
