Ton Duc Thang University pioneers in implementing the strategy for semiconductor industry development

On January 15, 2025, Ton Duc Thang University cooperated with Hung Duc Trading & Investment Co., Ltd. and HANEL Joint Stock Company to organize a Joint Development Forum with the theme “Trends in the development of high-tech industries worldwide and their relevance to Vietnam in 2025”. The forum is an important event, contributing to improving the quality of training, research and development of semiconductor microchip technology in Vietnam, helping to connect the scientific community, promote international cooperation, and create solid steps in applying semiconductor technology into practice, thereby supporting the development of the country’s knowledge economy.

Attending the forum were Mr. Han Quoc Dieu - Director of Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Vo Xuan Hoai - Deputy Director of the Vietnam National Innovation Center, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Truong Thang - Director of the Institute of Information Technology - Vietnamese Academy of Science and Technology, experts, business leaders from the US, Taiwan, Singapore, managers from the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the Vietnam National Innovation Center, scientists from the Research Institute of the Vietnamese Academy of Science and Technology, and universities around the world. From Ton Duc Thang University, there was the presence of Dr. Vu Anh Duc - Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the University Council, Dr. Tran Trong Dao - President of the University, along with lecturers and students of the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and the Faculty of Information Technology.

Speaking at the opening of the Forum, Dr. Tran Trong Dao - President of the University expressed: “I hope that this Forum will become an annual activity to promote cooperation between Vietnam and the international community in the semiconductor industry, as well as contribute to making Vietnam an important link in the global semiconductor supply chain”. At the same time, according to Dr. Tran Trong Dao, through this event, the University hopes to “facilitate connections between government agencies, universities, research institutes, companies, corporations and organizations from Vietnam, Taiwan as well as the international community in the semiconductor industry to improve the quality of human resources serving the development of the semiconductor industry in Vietnam”.

With 2 main themes, “Overview of the semiconductor, microelectronics, data center, cloud computing and AI industry” and “The development of the semiconductor, microelectronics, data center, cloud computing and green energy ecosystem for this industry”, the speakers in the Forum brought a lot of useful information, updating the development of the global semiconductor industry, new trends in chip design and manufacturing, as well as the impact of semiconductors on other fields such as artificial intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), and automation. The Forum also discussed training solutions, developing high-quality human resources for the semiconductor industry, especially in Vietnam. The speakers are renowned experts in the field of semiconductor technology, coming from leading companies, universities and major research institutes.

At the Forum, experts emphasized the importance of training highly qualified human resources in the semiconductor and microelectronics industry to meet the growing demand of the high-tech industry in Vietnam. The development of specialized training programs and international cooperation will be a decisive factor for Vietnam to develop a high-quality workforce, ready to participate in the global semiconductor supply chain and promote the sustainable development of this industry in the country, while seeking effective cooperation methods to enhance Vietnam’s position on the world technology map.
