Ton Duc Thang University Establishes Four New Strong Research Groups to Promote Innovation and Digital Transformation

On April 18, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) held a ceremony to announce the establishment of four new strong research groups, increasing the total number of the University’s strong research groups to nine. This marks a significant milestone in the implementation of TDTU’s Fourth Five-Year Development Plan (2025–2030) and reaffirms the University’s commitment to advancing science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation, in alignment with Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW issued by the Politburo, dated December 22, 2024, and TDTU’s strategy to become a research-oriented university.

Representatives from TDTU attending the event included Dr. Tran Trong Dao, Chairman of the TDTU Science and Training Council and President of TDTU; members of the Presidential Board and University Council; leaders of TDTU units; members of the strong research groups; as well as lecturers and researchers. Also in attendance were representatives of the Presidential Board and heads of departments from Dong Nai University.

Four newly established strong research groups:

  1. BIOPHARMED – Pharmaceutical and Biomedical Sciences (Faculty of Pharmacy), Group Leader: Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Duc
  2. SCCE – Smart Computing in Civil Engineering (Faculty of Civil Engineering), Group Leader: Dr. Nguyen Tan
  3. NLP-KD – Natural Language Processing and Knowledge Discovery (Faculty of Information Technology), Group Leader: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Anh Cuong
  4. EBMR – Economics, Business and Management (Faculty of Business Administration), Group Leader: Dr. Tran Cong Duc

With these additions, TDTU has had a total of 9 strong research groups - the core driving force in the University’s strategic direction to become a research-oriented university by 2030.

The development of strong research groups is also aligned with the Ministry of Science and Technology’s encouragement to form excellence research cores, enhancing the ability to implement national-level projects, promoting international collaboration, and contributing to the development of a high-quality workforce.

In his speech, Dr. Tran Trong Dao – President of TDTU – stated: “Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW issued by the Politburo, dated December 22, 2024, regarding breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation, affirms that developing science and technology and promoting innovation is the only path - the fastest and most sustainable path - to lead the country toward prosperity and affluence.”

“Strong research groups serve as the foundation for TDTU to enhance research capacity, expand international partnerships, foster innovation, and gradually integrate into the global research ecosystem.”, he further noted.

At TDTU, strong research groups not only gather prestigious domestic lecturers and scientists but also act as a connection point with international experts. From there, they create a combined strength in research, application and technology transfer to serve socio-economic development.

Through this initiative, TDTU continues to affirm its pioneering role in research, innovation, and digital transformation, building a solid scientific foundation for sustainable development and global integration.

With a clear strategic vision, robust research foundation, and comprehensive incentive policies, Ton Duc Thang University is steadily moving toward its goal of becoming an internationally recognized research university by 2037.
