On August 18th, 2020, Ton Duc Thang University was nominated for the Labour Hero title because of its outstanding contributions to the country's higher education, especially when it has been honourably ranked among the top 701-800 universities in the world according to the ARWU rankings.
The association of Vietnam Universities and Colleges has sent a proposal to the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour and the Ministry of Education and Training, proposing the Labour Hero title awarded to Ton Duc Thang University. This is a necessary move to honour and bolster the morale of the Presidential Board, lecturers and staff of the University when the University has just been honored in the top 701-800 top universities in the world according to the ARWU rankings, increasing at least 200 grades compared to 2019 (among 901 - 1000 positions). In particular, overcoming many long-standing universities, TDTU is the only university in Vietnam named on this list.
In the proposal letter sent to the leaders of relevant departments, the Association recognizes the outstanding achievements during the process of formation and development of TDTU: “Since its establishment date, Ton Duc Thang University has not received the investment from the state budget. However, for nearly 20 years, the university has emerged as a comprehensive, advanced model, and an exemplary management model. This is definitely the first and foremost achievement of the university. More importantly, it is the success of the government and the Party's policy of university autonomy. ”
Previously, the university was honored to receive many noble awards from the Party and Government, namely the First, Second, and Third Class Labor Medals and a number of others. These are important milestones in the development of the University, a worthy recognition and reward for its efforts and contributions to national education.
