Ton Duc Thang University Hosts Conference on Exemplary Contributions and Achievements for the 2020-2025 Period
On March 25, 2025, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) held the Conference on Exemplary Contributions and Achievements for the 2020-2025 period.
The event was honored to welcome distinguished guests and representatives from higher-level authorities, including Mr. Huynh Thanh Xuan, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, as well as representatives from local government agencies, recognized delegates, and the University’s leadership, lecturers, and staff.
Representing TDTU were Dr. Vu Anh Duc, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the University Council; Dr. Tran Trong Dao, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, President of the University; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Thi Minh Ly, Standing Member of Party Committee, Vice Chairwoman of the University Council; and Ms. Nguyen Thi La, Member of the University Council. Also in attendance were members of the University Council, the University Presidential Board, the Chair of the University’s Trade Union, along with more than 100 delegates from affiliated departments and units.
At the Conference, the University reviewed its emulation movements for the 2020-2025 period. The patriotic emulation movements were implemented extensively and effectively, aligning with the political and professional duties of each unit and individual. These initiatives fostered a strong sense of responsibility and a shared aspiration for contribution across the University. Over the past 5 years, TDTU has continued to strengthen its position both nationally and internationally, as reflected in its annual achievements, rankings, and growing reputation within the education sector in Vietnam and worldwide.
The 2020-2025 period marked a particularly significant chapter in Ton Duc Thang University’s journey. It was a time of unprecedented challenges, from the COVID-19 pandemic and leadership restructuring to the complexities of implementing university autonomy.
In his opening remarks, Dr. Tran Trong Dao, President of TDTU, emphasised that the University’s success in overcoming difficulties and achieving its current accomplishments would not have been possible without the timely guidance and support of the Government, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, the Ministry of Education and Training, various Ministries and Agencies, as well as local authorities in Ho Chi Minh City, District 7, and Tan Phong Ward. He also highlighted the invaluable contributions of the University’s lecturers, staff, and students, as counted in every goal and daily effort.
The Conference provided an opportunity for the University to reflect on its achievements, recognise and commend the collective efforts of lecturers, staff, and students, and identify areas for improvement. It also served as a platform to outline the direction for emulation movements and commendation for the 2025-2030 period, guided by the principles of “autonomy – innovation – sustainable development – international integration”. “We aspire for Ton Duc Thang University to become a model university - a prestigious research institution of high quality that actively contributes to the education and training of highly skilled human resources, advances science and technology for national development, and serves as a place for nurturing talent, fostering ethical values, and promoting the aspirations of a strong and prosperous Vietnam,” stated Dr. Tran Trong Dao.
Among the University’s notable achievements, significant progress has been made in expanding academic programmes and enhancing educational quality. Currently, TDTU offers 40 undergraduate programmes and 23 postgraduate programmes, with a total enrolment of approximately 27, 000 students.
The implementation of international accreditation for academic programmes has been carried out across all faculties, along with institutional accreditation. To date, 44 academic programmes at TDTU have been accredited and recognised as meeting international standards. Additionally, the University has been granted institutional accreditation by the FIBAA Accreditation and Certification Committee, certifying its compliance with international quality standards for a six-year period (from March 2024 to March 2030).
TDTU has consistently maintained high rankings both internationally and regionally, including: Top 100 globally for sustainable development; 95th out of 1,023 universities in interdisciplinary research; Top 200 best young universities worldwide; Top 200 leading universities in Asia; 601-800 among the world’s best universities according to THE World University Rankings 2024, etc.
Scientific and technological research at TDTU continues to receive substantial and sustainable investment. The University’s international cooperation and globalisation efforts have also been strengthened, with flexible and comprehensive initiatives fostering partnerships with reputable institutions worldwide. TDTU has signed memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with 60 leading international universities and educational organisations, expanding its network of global partners to over 210. The University has also witnessed a continuous expansion and enhancement of joint programmes and student exchange activities.
To date, 72,762 graduates from TDTU have achieved an impressive employment rate of 99.4% within 12 months of graduation, with several disciplines achieving a 100% employment rate.
In his keynote address, Mr. Huynh Thanh Xuan, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, speaking on behalf of the Presidium, recognised and highly commended the outstanding achievements of Ton Duc Thang University over the past five years.
“These achievements are not only the result of emulation movements but also evidence of the University’s strong governance, firm autonomy, and the unwavering dedication of a team that tirelessly innovates and strives to serve the nation while fostering holistic human development,” stated Mr. Huynh Thanh Xuan, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, during the Conference.
As part of the 2020-2025 review, the University-Level Emulation and Commendation Council proposed specific criteria for recognition, honouring 05 outstanding teams, 05 exemplary individuals, and 59 individuals with outstanding achievements in the University’s emulation movements. The recognition and awards were officially presented at the Conference.

* State-Level Awards: by the Government of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic:
- 01 institution - Ton Duc Thang University was honoured with the Third-Class Labour Medal by the President of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic (PDR) in 2022, on the occasion of its 25th anniversary. This prestigious award recognises the University’s significant contributions to educating high-quality human resources for Laos and fostering the special friendship between the two nations.
- 01 individual from Ton Duc Thang University (Dr. Tran Trong Dao, President) was awarded the Second-Class Labour Medal by the President of the Lao PDR in 2022 for his outstanding contributions to the development of training programmes and human resource for Laos, strengthening the special bilateral relationship between the two nations.

- Institutional Awards:
- The Vietnam General Confederation of Labour awarded TDTU a commemorative banner inscribed: “Ton Duc Thang University – 25 Years – Solidarity, Innovation, Sustainable Development (24/09/1997 – 24/09/2022).”
- The Vietnam General Confederation of Labour awarded TDTU the “Emulation Flag”, recognising the University’s exceptional achievements in the excellent labour and strong Trade Union organisation movement in 2022;
- The Minister of Education and Training awarded 06 Certificates of Commendation to the University.
- The Chair of the Quang Ngai Provincial People’s Committee awarded a Certificate of Commendation to TDTU in 2024 for its contributions to human resource training, research, and technology transfer in Quang Ngai Province.
- The Vietnam General Confederation of Labour awarded a Certificate of Commendation to TDTU in recognition of its outstanding achievements in the excellent labour and strong Trade Union organisation movement in 2023.

- The Vietnam General Confederation of Labour awarded the title of “Emulation Soldier” to 01 individual.
- The Vietnam General Confederation of Labour awarded Certificates of Commendation to 08 teams and 18 individuals for their outstanding contributions.
