The UNIVERSIADE is held every two years to expand sport relations, develop friendship and give each student a chance to showcase their cultural identity, and that of their country’s people. Participating in the 29th UNIVERSIADE 2017 from the 18th to 21st, August 2017 at in Taiwan, Vietnamese Student Athletic Association registered to compete in four categories: Athletics, Gymnastics, Wushu and Tae Kwon Do with 24 union cadres, coaches and athletes. There are 6 talented Tae Kown Do students from the Faculty of Sports Science of Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU), including: Nguyen Thi Le Kim, Hua Van Huy, Chau Tuyet Van, Nguyen Thien Phung, Ngo Thi Thuy Dung and Ho Thanh Phong.
Excellently passing the preliminary and semi-final rounds, TDT students continued to claim their talents in the finals with the achievement of one gold medal [Female Individual Poomsae] and three bronze medals [Male Team Poomsae, Female Team Poomsae, Male and Female Poomsae]. According to Coach Nguyen Thanh Huy, this was a very proud achievement because UNIVERSIADE is a big playground (after the Olympics only); And winning medals is very difficult. In particular, Le Kim's gold medal is also Vietnam's first gold medal at the second largest sporting event on the planet after the 19 congresses. [Vietnam has joined since 1979]. In her section, Le Kim reached 7,593 points, followed by a US athletes with 7,490 points.
After the end of the Games, Le Kim and his team returned to Vietnam and went on to Malaysia for the 29th SEA Games. This is also an opportunity for TDTU students to show their martial arts skills to the world again and continue to bring glory to Vietnamese sports in general and the activity of physical training at Ton Duc Thang University in particular.
Nguyen Thi Le Kim is one of the three golden girls (with Chau Tuyet Van and Nguyen Thi Thu Ngan) of Taekwondo Vietnam. After 15 years with Taekwondo, the little student born in 1992 has owned a collection of admirable achievements such as: Silver Medal (Team Poomsae) in the World Championship in Colombia; Gold Medal (Team Poomsae) in the World Military Tournament in Vietnam ; Gold Medal (Female Poomsae) in SEA Games 27.
