TDTU Students Win Gold Medal at the 16th Ho Chi Minh City Youth Innovation Festival 2025
On May 18, 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union held the ceremony for the 13th “Application, Fabrication, Design Awards” at Nong Lam University - Ho Chi Minh City, as part of the 16th Ho Chi Minh City Youth Innovation Festival 2025. This year’s competition attracted 76 entries from universities and enterprises in Ho Chi Minh City. The student team from the Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and the Faculty of Information Technology of Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) earned the Gold Medal for their project titled “Marine Surveillance UAV system”.
Developed by the Unmanned Aerial Vehicles – Robotics Lab (URLAB) team, the UAV system integrates advanced technologies including artificial intelligence (AI), computer vision, GPS navigation, and environmental sensors. The UAV is capable of autonomously detecting dangerous marine phenomena, such as rip currents and whirlpools, using deep learning algorithms trained on real-world data. Equipped with high-resolution cameras and advanced image processing technology, the system can conduct real-time risk analysis and issue timely warnings.
The organizing committee praised the project for its creativity and strong practical application. It reflects the students’ solid theoretical foundation, impressive technical skills, and innovative approach to addressing maritime safety challenges. The project also shows great promise for real-world deployment and paves the way for future research in UAV applications for disaster response and maritime management.
This remarkable accomplishment by the URLAB team at the 16th Ho Chi Minh City Youth Innovation Festival stands as a testament to the high-quality education and dynamic research culture among TDTU students.
