In the afternoon of September 22, 2018, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) held the Opening Ceremony of 2018- 2019 academic year of the two-phase doctoral program (sandwich) based on the bilateral cooperation program between TDTU and universities of the Czech Republic. Attending the opening ceremony were Prof. Dr. Jan Lata, the President of the Technical university of Ostrava; Associate Professor Adriana Knapková, Vice president of Tomas Bata University; Prof. Ivan Novy, Dean of Faculty of Business Administration, University of Economics, Prague; Prof. Jurai Sipko, President of the Institute of Economics - Slovak Academy of Sciences, and a number of professors and doctors who are leaders of the faculties of partner universities from the Czech Republic. On behalf of TDTU, there were representatives of the presidential board, leaders of the European Cooperation Center, leaders of the Faculties and Departments together with lecturers and new doctoral students.

In the 2018-2019 academic year, there have been 17 doctoral students admitted to the two-phase doctoral program between TDTU and Tomas Bata University; 4 admitted to the doctoral program between TDTU and Ostrava University; 12 admitted to the doctoral program between TDTU and Technical University of Ostrava; and 2 admitted to the doctoral program between TDTU and University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague.
