Panel Discussion “Creating a Positive Learning Environment Centered on Learners”
On January 10, 2025, at Hall 10F of Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU), the Panel Discussion titled “Creating a Positive Learning Environment Centered on Learners” took place. This event marked the beginning of a series of in-class public lectures from January 11, 2025, to May 18, 2025.
The Panel Discussion was attended by Dr. Dong Si Thien Chau, Vice President of TDTU, along with unit leaders and nearly 100 lecturers and staff from various Departments and affiliated units of the University.
Delivering a speech at the Panel Discussion, Dr. Dong Si Thien Chau, Vice President of TDTU, emphasized the importance of fostering a positive, learner-centered educational environment:“The goal of any educational institution is not merely to impart knowledge but also to create a learning environment centered on learners. This entails creating an atmosphere that encourages creativity, proactive learning, and the holistic development of students. Such an approach meets the increasing demands of society while upholding the University’s commitment to providing education aligned with international standards.”
The Panel Discussion introduced exemplary teaching methods and models, emphasizing the creation of a dynamic and creative learning environment focused on developing learners’ skills and integrating information technology into teaching, learning, and assessment activities. Participants had an opportunity to listen to presenters deliver five presentations, including:
- Using information technology in teaching to create visual, interactive, and personalized learning environments
- The flipped classroom model: Enhancing the active role of students
- Personalizing students’ learning experience using artificial intelligence: Application in the Accounting Principles course
- Building a positive learning culture that encourages interaction and exchange between lecturers and students
- How to apply OBE in course teaching?
During the Discussion and Q&A sessions, participants actively asked questions and engaged in lively discussions with the presenters, gaining a deeper understanding of the content of the presentations. This was also an opportunity for the University’s lecturers and staff to interact and exchange teaching methods and experiences.
The Panel Discussion was recorded, edited into a resource, and stored on the University’s online learning management system (LMS) to facilitate exchanges among lecturers and promote the spirit of innovation in teaching and learning methods. Additionally, from now until the end of the Semester 2/2024-2025, the University will continue to hold public lectures, allowing lecturers to observe and learn from the direct implementation of the teaching methods presented in the Panel Discussion during the presenters’ in-class sessions.
The University-level public lectures are a regular series organized by TDTU, providing an opportunity for Departments within the same field to exchange teaching experiences. This contributes to enhancing the quality of teaching and learning in line with international education quality standards (AUN-QA, FIBAA, ASIIN, among many).
