On the morning of November 6, 2020, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) held the Opening Ceremony of the new Academic Year 2020-2021.
Distinguish guests included Dr. Ngo Duy Hieu - Member of the Presidium, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour; Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Quan, former Minister of Ministry of Education and Training, President of Association of Vietnam Universities and Colleges; and Leaders of localities and friendly businesses of Ton Duc Thang University.
At the ceremony, Dr. Tran Trong Dao – the University Representative summarized the achievements of the university in the past academic year. Accordingly, despite many difficulties due to the COVID-19 epidemic, TDTU leaders, lecturers, staff and students have made great efforts to complete their tasks according to the academic year plan. As the results, the percentage of students who have a job after graduation within one year remains at 100%. In the graduation consideration in September 2020, 67.2% of students have good and fairly good academic results that have been the highest rate in the past 4 years. TDTU has successfully accredited 4 higher education programs according to AUN-QA standards, received 794 international students to study and participate in cultural exchanges, sent 111 students to exchange study abroad, expanded international cooperation with 154 partners from 34 countries, and many others.
With the above results, the university was honored to be ranked 701-800 by the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) and the US News & World Report ranked 623 among the best universities in the world.
The enrollment work was completed well ahead of the set targets; accordingly, the university has received 7,402 new students to study undergraduate programs, an increase of 11% compared to 2019.
At the opening ceremony, the university also awarded a scholarship of 100% tuition fee for the academic year 2020-2021 to Nguyen Minh Dang, who is TDTU freshman, former student of Nguyen Du High School, Ba Ria Vung Tau province, and the valedictorian of the 2020 entrance exam at Ton Duc Thang University.
In particular, to share with the difficulties of the people in Central Vietnam during the recent natural disaster, the university awarded 165 scholarships, each worth 5 million VND to students whose families were affected by storms and floods.
This is the 24th opening ceremony since the first establishment in 1997. After 23 years, TDTU has quickly achieved a range of important achievements and has become one of the typical universities in higher education autonomy implementation in Vietnam.
