The Vietnam Student Football Tournament - The First Café de Mang Den Cup in 2023 was opened at the stadium of Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) on February 18, 2023.
Dr. Tran Trong Dao - President of TDTU - the host of the tournament attended the ceremony, along with representatives of the organizers and guests: Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Toan - Editor-in-Chief of Thanh Nien Newspaper - Head of the Organizing Committee; Mr. Nguyen Minh Triet - Secretary of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Student Association; Mr. Dang Ha Viet - Head of the General Department of Physical Education and Sports; Ms. Nguyen Thu Thuy - Director General of Higher Education Department, Ministry of Education and Training; Mr. Nguyen Nam Nhan - Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture and Sports; Mr. Tran Quoc Tuan - President of Vietnam Football Federation; Mr. Tran Van Quynh - Member of Executive Committee of Vietnam Football Federation, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vi Tri Vang Group, Chairman of Mang Den Coffee Group Joint Stock Company, main sponsor; and representatives of sponsors for this year's tournament.
The tournament was assigned by the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union to Thanh Nien Newspaper in collaboration with the Central Committee of Vietnam Student Association and VFF. The qualifying round of the Vietnam Student Football Tournament has 42 teams that will be divided into 5 competing regions: the North region, the Central region, the South Central region - Central Highlands, the Southwest region and Ho Chi Minh City region. In particular, the qualifying round of the Ho Chi Minh City region takes place between 20 participating teams, divided into 5 groups to compete with the cheers of thousands of spectators presented at TDTU Stadium. After the end of the national qualifying round, 11 teams will be selected with the home team - TDTU to compete in the final round of the tournament, following the same format as the current U19 and U21 tournament.
At the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Minh Triet, shared "We feel the heat of the tournament and hope that the Vietnam Student Football Tournament will elevate the professionalism of university sports". Mr. Nguyen Minh Triet also said that the tournament has created a playground and a spirit of sports training among students, not only for athletes but also for all young students to have good physical fitness for participating in the task of learning and training. The tournament is also expected to find out factors that can contribute to the nation's high-performance sports.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Toan - Editor-in-Chief of Thanh Nien Newspaper, Head of the Organizing Committee of the tournament hopes that this tournament will create a healthy and useful playground for students across the nation, raise students' awareness of the importance of physical training, develop sports movements in general and university football in particular. Also, he expects that through the scale of the football tournament, it is possible to search and discover football talents from university to add to the national youth teams, foster into a powerful team to represent Vietnam in the world competition.

With the international standard sports facilities invested synchronously, especially with a FIFA standard football field with a capacity of more than 7,000 seats, TDTU co-organizes The Vietnam Student Football Tournament. – The First Café de Mang Den Cup in 2023, contributing to promote the movement of university sports, inspiring and spreading the love of football in the student community and creating opportunities in order to find young talents to educate, foster and train to become professional athletes in the future.
