On October 16, 2023, the National University Championship Basketball (NUC 2023) - Region 3 was officially opened with great solemnity at Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU), featuring the participation of 62 teams from universities and colleges in the Southern region.
The opening ceremony was attended by Dr. Tran Van Lam, Deputy Director of the Department of Physical Education - Ministry of Education and Training. Representing TDTU, Ms. Dang Thi Kim Anh, Head of the Department of Student Affairs, and Mr. Pham Thanh Anh Khoa, in charge of the Faculty of Sport Science, attended the ceremony.
NUC 2023 is jointly organized by the Department of Physical Education - Ministry of Education and Training, Max Sports Entertainment Joint Stock Company (MSE), and Vietcontent and trading joint stock company, with the aim of providing a professional basketball tournament for university students. This initiative seeks to create a healthy sporting environment, promote the basketball movement, nurture passion for basketball, and discover talented student basketball players. It aims to contribute to the development of the basketball community and pave the way for students to pursue professional basketball careers.
According to the plan, in Region 3, 62 teams (43 men’s and 17 women’s teams) with over 700 athletes will compete and the 5 best teams, including 3 men’s and 2 women’s teams will be selected to compete in the National Finals, which will take place in Hanoi in December. The group stage matches will be held daily from October 16, 2023, to October 28, 2023. Following that, the 1/8 rounds, quarter-finals, semi-finals, and finals will take place continuously from November 1 to November 12, 2023.
In the NUC 2022 championship, TDTU's Women's Basketball team convincingly clinched the championship title. Building on the previous season's success, both TDTU's Men's and Women's Basketball teams join this season with a high determination to conquer the highest places of the championship. In the opening match, TDTU's Men's Basketball team won all 4 quarters, securing an overall win against their opponent with a score of 62-51.
Ton Duc Thang University is honored to have been selected as the host for the NUC 2023 championship. TDTU's sports complex is currently equipped for 16 different sports, with a modern, mobile grandstand imported from the United States, versatile floor imported from France, with the capacity of up to 2,700 seats, and a central air conditioning system, which meets the requirements to accommodate national and international tournaments.
