On the morning of October 26, 2018, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) held a talk entitled "Global Citizens, Where Are You in the 21st Century?". The keynote speaker was Mr. Bui Khanh Nguyen, an independent educational expert.
The talk provided students with a wealth of knowledge about the concept of global citizenship, preparations to become a true global citizen; and roles of the Vietnamese global citizen in the 21st century. In addition, the speaker also shared some experience in managing life goals, organizing student life, etc.
One of the greatest barriers for young people today is their ability to use English. However, the keynote speaker questioned: “Do Americans or the British have trouble becoming global citizens?” Most of our students agreed that no success would come naturally without efforts despite the advantages available. ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) was established by the end of 2015; therefore, goods, services, and investment will be freely circulated among ASEAN countries, which means that Vietnam's labor market will become a competitive place between Vietnamese and citizens from other countries. Therefore, every student needs to equip themselves with the knowledge and skills necessary to succeed not only in their own country but also in other countries. The paramount importance is that to be a successful global citizen, you must first be a good citizen of your own country.
Mr. Bui Khanh Nguyen shared his feelings when visiting TDTU: "I find that TDTU is a very modern and immaculate ranging from campuses to lecture halls. TDTU is not different from other reputational universities of developed countries. This is a great pride for the students of TDTU! "
