In the afternoon of 16th April 2018, the Faculty of Environment and Labour Safety at Ton Duc Thang University celebrated the 20th Anniversary (April 16, 1998 – April 16, 2018) of its establishment. Attending the Anniversary were Faculty leaders and lecturers, staff, students, alumni and representatives of many partners. The Faculty of Environment and Labour Safety was initially called the Faculty of Labour Protection Sciences, with only one branch for bachelor degrees in labour safety. Up to now, the Faculty has had three departments of bachelor degrees including Labour Safety, Environmental Science and Environmental Engineering Technology (specializing in Water Supply and Sanitation), two departments of master degrees including Safety Engineering, and Environmental Engineering; two departments of sandwich doctorate degrees 2 + 2 with the Technical University of Ostrava, Czech Republic including Fire Prevention and Fire Fighting and Industrial Safety; and one department of sandwich doctorate degree 2 + 2 with the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague, Czech Republic in Chemistry and Environmental Technology. In particular, The Faculty of Environment and Labour Safety at TDTU is proud to be the first university in the South of Vietnam to train the human resources for two sectors of Labour Safety and Water Supply and Sanitation.
Speaking at the 20th Anniversary, Ms. Nguyen Thuy Lan Chi, Dean of the Faculty of Environment and Labour Safety completed the results of the Faculty which has achieved after 20 years of operation. Since only two faculty members have been strengthened and developed with more than 30 members including 4 professors, 13 doctors, and 01 foreign doctor. By 2018, the Faculty has enrolled 21 undergraduate courses of the standard type, 03 undergraduate courses of the work-study type, 01 second-degree undergraduate course in labour safety, 03 high-quality undergraduate courses in environmental science; 03 master courses in safety engineering, and 01 master course in environmental engineering. Since its founding, the Faculty of Environment and Labour Safety has been one of the leading faculties in scientific research at TDTU with more than 50 ISI papers and 30 peer-review articles, 11 lecturer’s projects of scientific research, and 39 student’s subjects of scientific research (including one Third Prize in VIFOTEC, 01 Encouraging Prize in the MONRE, three First Prizes and one Second Prize in Euréka).
Looking back over the past 20 years, these achievements not only demonstrate the capacity for research and education of the Faculty of Environment and Labour Safety but also motivate every lecturer, staff and student to promote the good traditions of the previous generation. This also shows that Ton Duc Thang University and the Faculty of Environment and Labour Safety are always the ideal destinations for those who are passionate about the fields of environment and labour protection.
