On September 29, 2023, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) held the 2023-2024 Academic Year Opening Ceremony, warmly welcoming the incoming students of the intake 27.
The Opening Ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including Comrade Quan Gia Binh – Deputy Director of Office B, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour; Mr. Tran Duc Hien – Deputy Head of the Ho Chi Minh City Committee for Overseas Vietnamese; Mr. Pham Hong Loc – Chief of Office of the People’s Committee of District 7; Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Dung – Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Tan Phong Ward, District 7, Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC).
Representatives from various universities, amicable high schools, and affiliated enterprises attended the ceremony. These included Major General, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thanh Hung – President of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Police University; Lieutenant Colonel, Dr. Le Hoang Ngan – Vice President of the People’s Security University in Ho Chi Minh City; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Minh Ha – President of the Open University HCMC…; representatives from Hoa Sen Group, Vietnam Rubber Group, HCMC Power Corporation, Vietcombank HCMC Branch, Oriental Commercial Bank (OCB) - Tan Thuan Branch, Bibica Corporation, and Saigontourist Travel Service Company Limited.
Regarding the University Founding Council and the University Council for the term 2021-2026, the following individuals were in attendance: Prof. Cao Minh Thi – Founding Member of the University; Members of the University Council for the term 2021-2026, including Dr. Dang Ngoc Tung – Former Member of Central Party Committee, Former Chairman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour; Comrade Nguyen Thi La – Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Ho Chi Minh City University and College; Mr. Nguyen Huy Can – Chairman of the HCMC Association for Promoting Education; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Thi Minh Ly – Vice Chairwoman of the University Council.
On the side of the TDTU Presidential Board, there were the following attendees: Dr. Tran Trong Dao – Chairman of the Science and Training Council, President; Dr. Vo Hoang Duy – Vice President; Dr. Dong Si Thien Chau – Vice President. Also present were leaders of units under TDTU, lecturers who represented 1,200 staff members, together with representatives of more than 26,000 students and PhD students at the University.
In the academic year 2022-2023, as outlined in the academic year-end report, Dr. Tran Trong Dao – Chairman of the Science and Training Council, President of the University, emphasized: The University has persistently strengthened and enhanced the quality of education during the academic year 2022-2023; moreover, there has been an effort to advance scientific research activities and international collaboration in a sustainable manner. In June 2023, TDTU was ranked 86th out of 928 best universities in Asia by the THE Asia University Rankings. As of now, the University has published a total of 11,566 articles in the WoS/Scopus database, with 455 articles being published during the academic year 2022-2023. Throughout the academic year, the University has successfully established partnerships with over 173 universities from 34 countries worldwide, welcomed 723 international students who joined the University for short-term courses, internships, and cultural exchanges. Additionally, the University organized programmes sending 966 students to study, intern, and participate in exchanges in countries such as Italy, Taiwan, Thailand…During the academic year 2022-2023, the University successfully organized the graduation for 210 master’s students; and awarded undergraduate degrees to 5,098 students. Remarkably, the employment rate of graduates within 12 months from graduation stood at 99.6%, with several fields achieving 100%.
On the occasion of the Opening Ceremony, the University honored Prof. Nguyen Ngoc Thanh – Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Information and Telecommunication (JIT), one of the two English-language scientific journals of TDTU, for his significant contributions to the Journal. In 2023, the Journal was indexed in the ESCI with the Impact Factor of 2.7 and a citation index of 5.4, as of June 7, 2023. Also on this occasion, the University commended Dr. Nguyen Nhat Tan for his outstanding achievements in scientific research during the academic year 2022-2023. Particularly noteworthy, Dr. Nguyen Nhat Tan was recently appointed as the Editor-in-Chief of the “Advances in Electrical and Electronic Engineering” Journal, indexed in the Web of Science and Scopus.
At the Ceremony, 6 students from the Vietnam-Finland International School (VFIS) under TDTU were also awarded for their outstanding achievements in music and sports both domestically and internationally.
During the Ceremony, the University also recognised and rewarded exemplary students for their excellent academic and extracurricular results in the academic year 2022-2023, awarded a scholarship to the valedictorian of the new intake, as well as to students who attained an English proficiency score of IELTS of 8.0 or above.
Representing the new students of the intake 27, Nguyen Ngoc Duy Khoa – a student from the Faculty of Business Administration, entrance valedictorian, shared: “Choosing a university of academic pursuits and personal growth over 4 to 5 years is a significant decision in one’s life.
