Enterprises inspire the students of the Construction Industry

On November 4, 2020, nearly 200 students from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Ton Duc Thang University attended the talk show “Career Positioning of Construction Engineer - reaching out to the world”. This event was organized by the Faculty of Civil Engineering in collaboration with BMB Steel Company Limited (BMB Steel) and Vietnam Sales & Engineering Institute (VSE Institute).

The speakers of the program were Mr. Tran Hoan Thien – Representative of BMB Steel Company, Mr. Huynh Kim Thinh - General Director of VSE Institute, Dr. Pham Hai Chien – Head lecturer of Construction Management Department, and Dr. Do Nguyen Van Vuong - Head lecturer of Basic Engineering Department - Faculty of Civil Engineering.

The topic of the talk show was about essential information of job requirements, career prospects and income for 7 main groups in the construction profession, which include site engineers, design engineers, labour safety engineers, Quality Assurance-Quality Control engineers, QS - estimation engineers; Sales engineers; and product development engineers.

With much experience in the Construction industry, the speakers shared with students real-life stories, from their hardships to their love and passion for the job. At the same time, as a leader and as an inspirer, the speakers also encouraged the students to focus on developing background knowledge, improving foreign languages ​​for personal development, and increase competitiveness in the international labor market by seizing job opportunities in foreign companies.

Mr. Tran Hoan Thien, BMB Steel's representative shared: “Over the years, working with engineers from many countries around the world, I think that the Vietnamese engineers’ qualifications and background knowledge are not inferior to those in regional countries like Singapore or Malaysia. What we lack is the foreign language and working mentality. If you are not good at English, you are hindering your future success.”

At the talk show, the Transformation with VSE scholarship fund, co-sponsored by VSE Institute and BMB Steel, also awarded 8 scholarships with a total value of 81 million VND to students of the Faculty of Civil Engineering; of which, 5 scholarships worth 7.8 million VND per one are tuition fees for English courses specializing in English for Construction Business. The other 3 scholarships worth 14 million VND per one are tuition fees for specialized technical business courses such as Technical Sales and Sales Engineering.

Candidates participating in the scholarship program will have the opportunity to work at BMB Steel domestically and at their foreign branches.
