On the morning of 23/09/2017, Ton Duc Thang University honorably celebrated its 20th anniversary (24/09/1997-24/09/2017). The representative of TDTU, Dr. Dang Ngoc Tung, Member of the School Council, Former Chairman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor; Ms. Hoang Thi Khanh, Chairman of the Founding Committee of Ton Duc Thang University; members of the School Council, members of the Academics and Training Council, members of the School Board; more than half of our lecturers, officers and nearly 1,000 of 22,000 students of the university.
More than 100 foreign guests attended the ceremony including: Ms. Lachanthaboune Sengdeuane, Minister of Education and Sport of the Lao People's Democratic Republic; Dr. Vítězslav Grepl, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to Vietnam; Mr. Kari Kahiluoto, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Finland to Vietnam; Mr. Somxay Sanamoune, Consul General of the Lao People's Democratic Republic in Ho Chi Minh City; 10 Presidents of associated with TDTU universities, such as Technical University of Ostrava, Tomas Bata University [Czech Republic], University of Northern Denmark, Pukyong National University [South Korea], National University of Penghu, National University of Sports and Physical Education, National United University, Lunghwa University of Science and Technology [Taiwan], Vietnam-Japan University, Lenk Hotel and Resort College [Switzerland]. In addition, we were honored to welcome Vice Presidents and Heads of International Cooperation Departments of other foreign universities such as Seoul National University, Dresden University [Germany], Saxion University [Netherlands]. Palacký University, University of Ostrava, University of Economics, Prague, Masaryk University [Czech Republic], Wroclaw University [Poland], Taylor University [Malaysia]; Feng Chia University, Nanhua University [Taiwan].
In the opening speech for the Anniversary, Prof. Le Vinh Danh, President of Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) has reviewed difficulties with many zeroes (0) in the early days of establishment such as no staff, no syllabus, no finance, no prestige, no facilities. But within only 10 years, from 2007 to 2017, the school has become a reliable name and a symbol of the modern, quality and innovation of higher education in Vietnam. TDTU has successfully built the synchronous, world-class, beautiful and clean facility system in the country; Scientific-technological products of the University have risen to the top of the country; TDTU is internationally recognized as a major and prestigious university in the Top 200 of the world's most sustainable universities [UI Greenmetric World University Rankings], the first public university in Vietnam to achieve 3 star/5 star rating [QS Stars Rating] and most recently, an independent university ranking institute in Vietnam has ranked Ton Duc Thang University at the second nationwide.
At the 20th Anniversary, TDTU lecturers, staff and students were honorably awarded the emulation flag of the Government by the Prime Minister’s decision for outstanding achievements, leading the Emulation Group of Vietnam General Confederation of Labor in 2016. On this occasion, the President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic also presented the Friendship Medal to Ton Duc Thang University and the Third Labor Medal to Professor Le Vinh Danh, the President of TDTU.
