On December 9, 2022, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) received a collection of valuable foreign-language books about Japan presented by the Nippon Foundation as part of the Read Japan Project.
Attending the ceremony, on the side of the Japanese Consulate in Ho Chi Minh City, were Mr. Watanabe Nobuhiro - Consul General of Japan, Mr. Shiraishi Hideyuki - Head of Culture and Education Department, and Ms. Nguyen Thi Bao Uyen - Cultural Officer.
Dr. Tran Trong Dao - President of TDTU, Dr. Dinh Hoang Bach - Acting Director of the International Cooperation, Research & Training Institute (INCRETI), and Assoc. Prof. DSc. Bui Loan Thuy - Acting head of TDTU's INSPiRE Library welcomed the delegation.
On his first visit to TDTU, Mr. Watanabe Nobuhiro expressed his impression of facilities, working style and exciting international activities at the University. Through this book donation activity, he also wished to contribute to expanding the image of Japanese people and culture and strengthening the friendship between the two countries.
Dr. Tran Trong Dao thanked the Consulate General of Japan and the Nippon Foundation for supporting TDTU Library to receive valuable resources for students of the University in particular and Vietnamese people in general. He also affirmed that TDTU is ready to coordinate with the Consulate General of Japan to organize events to cement the Vietnam - Japan friendship, especially in 2023 when Japan and Vietnam celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
The Read Japan Project has been implemented by the Japan Foundation and the Japan Science Society since 2008, with the goal of increasing understanding about the country and people of “the land of the rising sun”, as well as enhancing cultural exchanges in the relationship between Vietnam and Japan. The event of receiving books from Read Japan Project marked the beginning of the cultural and educational cooperation relationship between TDTU and the Consulate General of Japan in Ho Chi Minh City in the future.
