TDTU Co-organizes the Second Vietnam–Czech Roundtable on Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation

On September 9, 2026, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) and the Embassy of Vietnam in the Czech Republic co-organized the Second Vietnam–Czech Roundtable on Higher Education, Science, Technology and Innovation at the Embassy’s premises in Prague.

The TDTU delegation was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trong Dao, President of the University. The event brought together representatives of agencies, organizations and 16 higher education institutions from Vietnam and the Czech Republic to review the outcomes of their cooperation, identify priorities and propose initiatives for the next phase of collaboration.

In his opening remarks, Vietnamese Ambassador to the Czech Republic Duong Hoai Nam emphasized the importance of strengthening higher education ties between the two countries. Representatives of the Czech Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Confederation of Industry of the Czech Republic also discussed the potential for university–industry collaboration, highlighting the need to align education and research with economic development needs.

Discussions focused on faculty and student exchanges, joint academic programs, joint supervision of doctoral students, connections between research groups, the co-organization of scientific conferences, and participation in European research programs and projects.

TDTU outlined its strategic direction for development as a research university and expressed its commitment to building substantive, in-depth partnerships in the Czech Republic and across Europe. The University prioritizes areas of shared strength, including engineering and technology, information technology, artificial intelligence, electrical and electronic engineering, digital technology, materials, energy and sustainable development.

During the roundtable, TDTU signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to participate in the Czech–Vietnam Deep Tech Innovation & Impact Hub (CVDI Hub), expanding opportunities to connect universities, research institutes and businesses from both countries in research, technology transfer and innovation.

The University also signed an MoU with the Union of Vietnamese People Associations in Europe to strengthen connections with educational institutions, scientific organizations, experts and businesses, while promoting academic exchanges and support for students.

In his closing remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trong Dao called on all parties to maintain regular communication, build on each partner’s strengths and promptly translate their commitments into practical programs and projects. The Third Vietnam–Czech Roundtable is expected to take place at TDTU in September 2027, coinciding with the University’s 30th anniversary.

TDTU’s role in co-organizing the roundtable demonstrates its proactive approach to academic diplomacy and international integration. The event contributes to advancing cooperation in higher education, science, technology and innovation, further strengthening the longstanding friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and the Czech Republic.
