On June 1, 2022, THE (Times Higher Education) announced the results of the ranking of Asian universities in 2022 (THE Asia University Rankings 2022). Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) first appeared in this ranking and was ranked at 73rd, the highest among the 5 ranked Vietnamese universities.
THE has been ranking Asian universities since 2013, with the same ranking criteria as the criteria of THE World University Rankings, with weight adjustment to suit the characteristics of Asian universities.
In 2022, 616 universities from 31 Asian countries/regions are ranked. Saudi Arabia is the dominant country in this year’s ranking with 6 universities ranked in the Top 100.
Topping the rankings are China’s Tsinghua University (1st) and Peking University (2nd). 3rd place belongs to the National University of Singapore (Singapore).
Vietnam has 5 universities in this table, including Ton Duc Thang University (73rd), Duy Tan University (91st in the same place), Vietnam National University, Hanoi (301st - 350th), Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City (401nd - 500th), and Hanoi University of Science and Technology (501st+). Particularly, the University of Danang is listed as reporter, which is an educational institution that provides data but is not eligible for ranking.
In September 2021, for the first time, TDTU entered the global university rankings of THE in the Top 500. Also according to THE, in February 2022, TDTU was ranked in the Top 100 best young universities (age under 50 years) in the world.
