Resilience and determination rising from VFIS Chess Fest

On March 16, 2024, Vietnam - Finland International School (VFIS), a part of Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU), organized the VFIS Chess Fest 2024 with the participation of over 350 students aged 5-18 in Ho Chi Minh City. The event was honored by the presence of Dr. Nguyen Tra Giang, Vice President of the Vietnam Chess Federation; Mr. Hoang Thien, Head of Training and Arbiter of the Ho Chi Minh City Chess Federation, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Royal Chess Center; and nearly 500 parents, and teachers who had accompanied their students. The VFIS Chess Fest 2024 is the first event of its kind organized by VFIS.

Participating in VFIS Chess Fest, chess players had the opportunity to unleash their passion for chess through various activities related to this world-class intellectual sport, such as: professional chess competitions across different age groups from preschool to high school; advanced chess skill workshops with experts; and relaxing moments for parents as they witnessed unique chess variants. All of these created an extremely vibrant and meaningful chess festival, as it provided students not only with the chance to exchange and learn chess skills but also fostered family bonds and community cohesion among chess enthusiasts in Ho Chi Minh City. This event sparked inspiration to play chess among students, helping them develop practical qualities and life skills such as focus, creativity, adaptability, resilience, and determination to overcome life’s challenges. This reflects the educational philosophy of Vietnam - Finland International School, which is succeeding in today’s society more through  life skills than academic grades.

VFIS is a member of Ton Duc Thang University and is recognized by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) as an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School authorized to teach the IB Program. The school currently offers both an international program and a bilingual program for students in grades 1 to 12.

Upon graduating from high school at VFIS, students will have the opportunity for direct admission to Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU).
