The Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) Stadium hosted the Opening Ceremony of the 2nd Vietnam Student Football Tournament 2024 Finals - THACO Cup on March 16, 2024.
Attending the Opening Ceremony, there was the presence of Dr. Vo Hoang Duy - Vice Present of TDTU (Host), along with representatives of the organizing committee and guests, including journalist Nguyen Ngoc Toan, Editor-in-Chief of Thanh Nien Newspaper and Head of the Organizing Committee; Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, Member of the Ho Chi Minh Party Committee, Head of the Ho Chi Minh Party Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilization; Mr. Duong Anh Duc, Member of the Ho Chi Minh Party Committee, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh People’s Committee; Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh, Deputy Director of the Department of Sports and Physical Education; Mr. Tran Anh Tu and Mr. Nguyen Xuan Vu, Vice Presidents of the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF); Mr. Tran Trong Dung, Vice President of the Vietnam Journalists Association; Mr. Nguyen Mot, Senior Director of Corporate Culture and Communications of Truong Hai Group Joint Stock Company - THACO; goalkeeper of the Vietnamese Football National Team - Dang Van Lam; singer Ngo Kien Huy; leaders, representatives of participating units; 11 football teams; and representatives of sponsors of the tournament. Especially noteworthy was the support of over 5,000 spectators at the TDTU Stadium.
The Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union Central Committee has assigned Thanh Nien Newspaper in coordination with the Central Vietnam Student Association and VFF to organize the tournament. There are 64 teams from universities, colleges, and vocational schools nationwide. After the national qualifying round, the 11 qualified teams and the home team, TDTU, compete in the final round of the tournament.
In the opening ceremony, journalist Nguyen Ngoc Toan, Editor-in-Chief of Thanh Nien Newspaper and Head of the Organizing Committee of the tournament, delivered the opening speech, congratulating the worthy representatives from the six regions who have overcome the challenging qualifying rounds to be present at today’s finals. He emphasized that the core spirit that defines the value of the Vietnam Student Football Tournament is “play beautifully, win beautifully, and cheer beautifully.”
The championships’ opening bouts took place that afternoon with great fanfare. The home team, TDTU, kicked off with great passion and determination, delivering an exciting match for the university’s supporters. The Vietnam Student Football Tournament 2024 Finals will last for 2 weeks, with the final match scheduled for March 31, 2024.
TDTU is a public university with experience in organizing many large-scale sporting events. With international standard sports facilities being synchronously invested, especially a FIFA standard football field with a capacity of more than 7,000 seats, TDTU is qualified for co-hosting the 2nd Vietnam Student Football Tournament - THACO cup 2024. This contributes to promoting sports movements in universities, inspiring and spreading the love of football in the student community, and creating opportunities to find young talents to be trained as professional athletes.
