Ho Chi Minh City Student Open Taekwondo Championship in 2019

From the 22nd to the 24th of November 2019, the first Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC) Student Open Taekwondo Championship (Ton Duc Thang University Cup) officially took place at the Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) Gymnasium. This is the first student tournament organized by the Department of Culture and Sports and the Ho Chi Minh City Taekwondo Federation in coordination with TDTU.

Nearly 200 athletes from universities and colleges in HCMC competed in 5 areas of standard Kung Fu, 6 areas of creative Kung Fu; and 2 areas of offensive; battle competition consisting of 9 weight levels for men and 9 weight levels for women.

In the end, TDTU ranked first for the whole competition; the two teams that ranked second and third were Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports and Ho Chi Minh City University of Sport.

TDTU’s dominance in the area of Kung Fu is what was expected because the athletes have very high professional quality and are currently joining the National Team. They are familiar faces, such as Nguyen Thi Mong Quynh, Nguyen Thi Le Kim, Nguyen Thi Kim Ha, Tran Cao Cam Tien, etc.

The tournament was a useful playground for students and promoted the Taekwondo practice and competition movement in the school.
