Ton Duc Thang University Welcomes Consul General of the Republic of Cuba
On the morning of July 20, 2026, on the occasion of assuming his new post, Mr. Mauricio Alejandro Martínez Duque, Consul General of the Republic of Cuba in Ho Chi Minh City, paid a courtesy visit to Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU).
During the meeting, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Trong Dao, President of TDTU, congratulated Mr. Mauricio Alejandro Martínez Duque on his new appointment and reaffirmed the long-standing friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Cuba. He emphasized that strengthening cooperation in education and scientific research between TDTU and Cuban universities and research institutes would contribute to expanding academic exchanges and further deepening the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
As a higher education institution under the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour (VGCL), TDTU has consistently attached great importance to fostering cooperation with Cuban organizations and partners. In July 2023, the University welcomed a delegation from the Workers' Central Union of Cuba (CTC) led by Mr. Ulises Guilarte De Nacimiento, Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of Cuba, Secretary General of the CTC, and Vice President of the World Federation of Trade Unions.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed opportunities to strengthen connections between TDTU and leading Cuban universities. Potential areas of cooperation include student recruitment and scholarship opportunities for Cuban students to study in Vietnam; student and faculty exchanges; short-term academic programs; cultural exchange activities; and collaborative education and research in biotechnology, medicine, agriculture, environmental science, economics, engineering, and the social sciences.
The two parties also explored the possibility of jointly implementing research projects, co-organizing international conferences and scientific seminars, and promoting academic exchanges between TDTU faculty members, researchers, and their Cuban counterparts.
The meeting opened up new opportunities for collaboration between TDTU and Cuban higher education and research institutions, thereby contributing to the advancement of educational and scientific cooperation as well as people-to-people exchanges between Vietnam and Cuba.
