At exactly 8:00 a.m., all delegates, guests, the University’s leadership, leaders of affiliated and subordinate units, along with staff, lecturers, and students of the University enthusiastically and solemnly attended the Celebration of the 80th Anniversary of the establishment of the Ministry of National Education (now MOET) and the Opening Ceremony of the Academic Year 2025-2026 at the National Convention Center in Hanoi, through online connection with the MOET.

This is the first time that all educational institutions nationwide, with nearly 1.7 million teachers and 30 million pupils and students, have participated in the flag-raising ceremony and sung the National Anthem at the same time during the Opening Ceremony of the new academic year, together listening to the instructions and greetings for the new academic year from the Party General Secretary, as well as the sound of the school drum signaling the start of the year.

On this very day 80 years ago, the Ministry of National Education (now MOET) was established, and since then, September 5 has become the traditional day of the education sector — the nationwide Opening Ceremony day, a festival when the whole people bring children to school.

Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son, delivering a speech at the Celebration

Speaking at the Ceremony, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son emphasized: The Opening Ceremony and today’s Celebration are more than just an event or a ritual — they are a profoundly meaningful educational activity. “Looking back at the 80-year journey of development, no words can fully express the gratitude of the Education sector for the care and leadership of the Party, the State, the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and all organizations, agencies, and ministries. No figure can quantify the concern, investment, and support from the entire society, or the assistance from international friends and organizations for Vietnam’s education and training. Over the past 80 years, no monument can fully inscribe the sacrifices, dedication, efforts, intellect, and affection of millions of teachers for generations of students. This merit, this gratitude, can only be engraved in eternal time and in the remembrance of millions upon millions of students,” the Minister said.

The Academic Year 2025-2026 begins in a special historical context: the nation celebrates the 80th Anniversary of National Day as well as the 80th Anniversary of the establishment and development of the Education sector. On this occasion, the Politburo issued Resolution No. 71-NQ/TW on August 22, 2025, on breakthrough development in education and training, which not only demonstrates the Party’s profound attention to education but also establishes a strategic vision, ushering Vietnamese education into a period of strong transformation in the era of digitalization, artificial intelligence, and globalization.

In his directive speech at the Celebration, Party General Secretary To Lam requested that, in the new context with new goals and driving forces, the Education sector must take the lead in innovating mindsets, methods, and governance; and in building a teaching workforce with both knowledge and ethics, as well as the aspiration to contribute. According to the Party General Secretary, teachers must be shining examples and a source of inspiration for students. Pupils and students must nurture great ambitions and aspirations, study and train themselves to become global citizens who gradually integrate into international standards while always preserving the Vietnamese identity and spirit. The Party General Secretary also specifically pointed out nine major orientations that the Education sector must focus on implementing in the coming time.
