A group of students from the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU), including Tuan Anh Le, Thanh Hoang Ta and Quang Bao Tran have won the 2nd prize for the Urban Planning (no First Prize) in the 19th Student Scientific Research Euréka Award 2017. Here is the story of these students’ journey:
We are the students who are studying Regional and Urban Planning in the Faculty of Civil Engineering. The decision to participate in scientific research came to us accidentally and it naturally made us feel curious, passionate to research and keeps our enthusiasm of “succeeding in something" of our youth.
During the courses, we have gained a great deal of knowledge about regional and urban planning. Facing many issues relating to sustainable development planning, what should we, the future planners, choose and do? Regarding the inadequacies in life such as traffic jams around the school areas, air pollution caused by smoke from vehicles ..., we began to question "How should we reduce the number of vehicles on the roads? Are there any development models and how can we make students accept them? " With the knowledge and support of professor Tu Anh Trinh and other teachers, the model "Motorbike Sharing in the Student Community: a Case Study at Ton Duc Thang University" began to take shape.
Of course, we had to go through many difficulties and challenges. Possibly the most difficult part of the research process was unifying personal views and interviewing 840 students within a short space of time. However, the devoted teachers gave us important ideas that made it easier for us to overcome these obstacles.
We took part in Eureka 2017, which has 777 excellent subjects from 85 universities. We are proud to have won the second prize in the field of Urban Planning (There is no First Prize). This is the most valuable award for the efforts of the whole group and for the instructors as well as lecturers of TDTU Department of Urban and Regional Planning, who inspire and help us lay the foundation for our success.
Taking part in Euréka 2017, gave us the opportunity to connect with many students with the same passion. It also gave us the chance to learn useful skills that a student should learn during his time on campus such as skills in teamwork, time management, communication, and presentations.
Through the research activities, we also realized that "We have grown up". We are grateful to teachers of the Faculty of Civil Engineering for motivating, instructing and supporting us. We’d also like to thank the students of TDTU for answering our questionnaire system.
Everyone has their own passion. Some know what they like and devote themselves to meaningful things. However, there are some who are still looking for their passion and do not know what they like. Don’t worry, just try your best and there will be time when you realize what you are passionate about.
We hope that TDTU students in general and students in the field of Urban and Regional planning in particular should confidently participate in the challenges; Remember that "Nothing is impossible, everything will be fine." Assert yourself through the contest, create glory for yourself and for the school, involve yourselves in the field of science and then there will be a day when you are proud of yourselves.
