On 5th and 19th of June, 2022, the Faculty of Environment and Labour Safety, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) organized a seminar on applied research in Environment and Labour Safety. The event attracted many experts from state management agencies, enterprises and alumni. There were 6 seminar reports, divided in two sessions, corresponding to two fields including environment and labour safety.
The highly applicable topics discussed at the seminar included applying Geographic Information System (GIS) in the management of water supply network to quickly and accurately determine any water leakage, helping to help control hydraulics and water quality; some low-cost water treatment and supply solutions for remote residential areas as well as chlorine solutions with dosage and time determined experimentally to improve parameters of natural organic matters in water; safe lifting operations in industry and construction; and chemical safety and fire prevention.
The problem of innovating the process of making environmental impact assessment reports in investment projects, the completion of environmental licenses, and putting projects into operation under the Environmental Protection Law 2020 were topics analyzed by managers to confirm that the issue of environmental protection had been concerned at the macro level and practically legalized. The topic of “Technology application in construction safety management” gave some limitations in the implementation of safety measures at the construction sites today and proposed some technological solutions and software applications in place of manual monitoring.
Applied research is one of the research focuses at TDTU, helping to connect teaching activities to actual production, bridging the gap between training program and reality. Through applied research, enterprises have the fastest access to research results by technology transfer while learners can grasp the needs of the labor market.
