On June 28, 2024, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) held the conference on evaluating the results of the third 5-year plan (2019-2024) and the development plan of the University for the period 2025-2030.
The conference proudly welcomed the attendance of honored guests including Comrade Thai Thu Xuong - Member of the Presidium, Permanent Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour; Comrade Nguyen Thi La, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Ho Chi Minh City University and College; Mr. Vo Khac Thai - Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Federation of Labour; Mr. Nguyen Minh Dung, Chairman of the Inspection Committee of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour; Mr. Nguyen Duc Thinh, Head of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, along with executive representatives of various offices of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour; and Mrs. Hoang Thi Khanh, Chairwoman of the Founding Council of Ton Duc Thang University.
From TDTU, there were Dr. Dang Ngoc Tung, Former Member of the Party Central Committee, Former Chairman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, former Chairman of the University Council, member of the University Council; Dr. Vu Anh Duc, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the University Council; Dr. Tran Trong Dao, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the Science and Training Council, President of TDTU; along with other members of the Standing Committee of the University Council, the Presidential Board, members of the University Council, members of the Party Committee and Leaders of units under the University.
The conference attendees listened to Dr. Tran Trong Dao, President of TDTU, reporting on the draft regarding the adjustments and updates on the contents of the educational philosophy, mission, vision, goals, slogan, culture/core values, as well as behavioral principles of TDTU. This content will also be reported at the 19th Meeting of the University Council which was held on the same day, June 28, 2024. Dr. Vo Hoang Duy, Vice President of TDTU, on behalf of the Executive Board, presented the summary report on the implementation of the third 5-year plan (2019-2024).
Following that, the conference attendees heard several reports from various units under the University on the orientation of scientific and technological development, international cooperation, training activities, as well as the development plans of certain units such as the Institute for Advanced Study in Technology and the Faculty of Business Administration.
Significantly, the conference held discussions for delegates to contribute opinions and make recommendations to higher authorities regarding the development orientation of the University for the period 2025-2030.
In her directive speech at the conference, Comrade Thai Thu Xuong - Permanent Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, affirmed that in the context of not only transitioning from the pilot autonomous model according to Decision 158/QĐ-TTg of the Prime Minister to operating under the autonomous public university model according to the provisions of the Law on amendments on a number of articles of the Law on Higher Education and Decree 99 of the Government, but also facing many negative impacts due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and global economic and political instability, the leadership team and the entire lecturers and staff of the University have made great efforts to overcome all difficulties and basically complete the targets and tasks of the third 5-year plan. Among these, some targets have been exceeded. The material and spiritual lives of the teaching staff have been increasingly cared for and improved. Regarding the fourth 5-year plan for the period 2025-2030, Comrade Thai Thu Xuong commented that the reports were meticulously prepared, with detailed and specific objectives, tasks, and timelines, based on the actual situation of the University, which are aligned with its mission, vision, and long-term goals. Additionally, she emphasized that in the next five years, the entire University community needs to continually strive to promote the strengths of the University, maintain good values - culture – behavior. The University must invest in the quality of education and training, particularly in digital transformation; ensure the standards of current higher education institutions, aiming for sustainable development; and build a team of personnel as well as dedicated, responsible, and enthusiastic teaching staff contributing to the University’s development in the coming time. She also added “The Vietnam General Confederation of Labour always shares, supports, and maximizes assistance so that the University can continue to develop, achieving the goal of developing Ton Duc Thang University into a multidisciplinary research university of international standards.”
In his closing speech at the conference, Dr. Vu Anh Duc, Secretary of the Party Committee, Chairman of the University Council, affirmed that the summary and evaluation of the implementation of the third 5-year plan (2019-2024) and the formulation of the fourth development plan (2025-2030) is a very important task, determining the orientation of all the University’s activities in the next five years and beyond. Therefore, the University sincerely appreciates and welcomes the directive and orientation speeches of the leaders of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour, the Party Committee of Ho Chi Minh City University and College, as well as the constructive contributions and recommendations from the delegates at the conference so that the University can finalize and update the draft plan, ensuring that the University’s activities in the coming time are in accordance with the Party’s guidelines, the State’s policies and laws, and the regulations of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labour.
