TDTU's "Taekwondo Talents" made historical record at the University Olympiad 2017

The University Olympiad (UNIVERSIADE) is held every two years to enhance sport relations, develop friendship and offer students of each nation a chance to show their culture. In this 29th UNIVERSIADE held in Taiwan, from August 18th to 21st, the Vietnamese team competed in four sports: Athletics, Gymnastics, Wushu and Taekwondo with 24 staffs, coaches and athletes. Among them are 6 Taekwondo “talents” from the Sport Science Faculty of Ton Duc Thang University, including Nguyen Thi Le Kim, Hua Van Huy, Chau Tuyet Van, Nguyen Thien Phung, Ngo Thi Thuy Dung and Ho Thanh Phong.

With outstanding performance in the qualification round and semi-final, TDTU students continued to prove their talents in the finals with one gold medal (Women individual Poomsae event) and three bronze medals (Men team Poomsae event, Women team Poomsae event, Men and mixed pair Poomsae event). According to coach Nguyen Thanh Huy, this is a very proud achievement of TDTU students because UNIVERSIADE is a big sport event (only after the Olympics) and to gain medals is very difficult. Especially, Le Kim's gold medal is also Vietnam's first gold medal at the world's second biggest sport event after 19 times since Vietnam first joined in 1979. In her own performance, Le Kim excellently got 7,593 points, and the runner-up comes from the US with 7,490 points.

After the 29th Universiade, Le Kim and her team will join the 29th SEA Games in Malaysia. This is also an opportunity for TDTU students to show their martial arts skills, continue to bring glory for Vietnam in general and the movement of physical training at Ton Duc Thang University in particular.

Nguyen Thi Le Kim is one of the three golden girls (besides Chau Tuyet Van and Nguyen Thi Thu Ngan) of Vietnam Taekwondo. After 15 years with Taekwondo, the little girl born in 1992 has owned a collection of admirable achievements such as the silver medal of team Poomsae event of the World Championships in Columbia; Gold Medal  of  World Military Trophy in Vietnam; Gold Medal of Taekwondo Performances Women team, 27th SEA Games ...
