The Start-up Market of Design Students

On 19th – 20th Jan 2018, a start-up market conducted by Faculty of Industrial Fine Arts’ students, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) with the theme “Creative Market” attracted around 1500 visitors to drop in and go shopping. This distinctive activity was inspired by a similar market specializing in design and handmade items originally hold in Melbourne, Australia.

The Creative Market 2018 at TDTU aimed to boost the “start-up spirit” amongst the student communities, establish opportunities for young learners to experiment their own trademark and identity in self-produced works (4 majors involved are: industrial design, graphic design, fashion design and interior design). Besides the commercial activities, there are many more interesting programs that drawn participant’s attention such as the two talkshows “Start-up in design: Where to start?” hosted by The Craft House and Traqué Studio and “Vietnamese traditional costume in the international fashion arena” shared by designer Le Long Dung; together with movie screening, student’s fashion and music performing.

According to information from the Operator Board, all 25 booths in the market were “out of stock” after 2 days. The success of this market has truly proved the TDTU student’s capability in creating and organizing such an event. Thanks to the support from friend-companies, each design student as well as TDTU students as a whole are able to build the initial steps in their start-up career leading to possible major contribution to the Entrepreneur National Program undertaken by the Government in the future.
