According to the Organizer of the “Hoa Mai 2019-2020” Wooden Interior Designs Competition, Student Quach Minh Quan, majoring in Interior Design of the Faculty of Industrial Fine Arts at Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU), won the Second Prize of the Promising Round with the work “Minnaar Chair”.
Two other students of the Faculty also participated in the competition and won prizes, including Duong Thi Minh Ngoc winning the Honorable Prize with the work “Propulsion Chair”, and Nguyen Duy Tri’s “Lagom Shelf” was among the Top 23 best works.
In addition, in the Professional Round, Mr. Nguyen Hoa, TDTU Alumni also outstandingly won the First Prize with the work "Cham Shelf".
All TDTU students’ works were bought at high prices by businesses. Particularly, the design of Quach Minh Quan that was purchased by Tan Thanh Furniture Company for 42 million VND at an auction, while the initially proposed price was 4 million VND. Mr. Pham Chan Quang, Director of this business revealed that the reason they scrambled for the “Minnaar Chair” design is that “The chair has a fairly simple design but is full of sophistication and elegance and will be suitable for many market segments thanks to its high aesthetics”.
The “Hoa Mai 2019-2020” Wooden Interior Designs Competition was organized by the Handicraft and Wood Industry Association of Ho Chi Minh City (HAWA) with the purpose of designing models for wooden interior and exterior products. This competition was mainly supported by the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC). With works and prizes in almost every round, Alumni and students from the Faculty of Industrial Fine Arts, TDTU have attracted all businesses and judges in the competition.
