Thanh Nien Newspaper: Female Student Graduates with Highest Honors and a GPA of 9.04, Fulfilling Her Promise: “Mom, Just Wait for Me…”

“Mom, just wait for me. One day, you’ll see me wearing a graduation gown.” This simple promise Nguyễn Thị Mỹ Hoa made to her mother became a reality on the day she graduated from Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU). With a GPA of 9.04, the Accounting student graduated with highest honors after a determined journey of overcoming her personal limitations.

At Ton Duc Thang University’s graduation ceremony on October 23, Nguyễn Thị Mỹ Hoa celebrated more than just the culmination of four years of academic study.

For the young woman from Khanh Hoa Province, it was also the moment when her promise to her mother came true. Born with a physical disability affecting her mobility, Hoa has had to devote more time and patience to certain everyday activities and academic tasks.

There were times when Hoa struggled with self-doubt, questioning her abilities and worrying about her future. Yet she viewed education as an essential pathway toward independence, stable employment, and gradually easing the burdens shouldered by her parents.

Rather than allowing her limitations to become a reason to give up, Hoa chose to move forward through small but consistent efforts: taking her studies seriously, proactively addressing her weaknesses, and persevering toward the goals she had set for herself.

Over her four years at university, her dedication was recognized through numerous achievements. Hoa received academic merit scholarships on multiple occasions, was awarded the BKR Sheldon B. Webster Scholarship in 2026, and achieved the highest result before her graduation thesis defense committee in the 2025–2026 academic year.

For Hoa, that scholarship was a source of encouragement that gave her greater confidence in pursuing her studies. For her family, every step forward was a moment of joy, made possible by her steady efforts day after day. Watching her daughter reach this milestone, Hoa’s mother was also overcome with unforgettable emotions.
