On December 11, 2024, the AUN-QA International Conference 2024 was solemnly opened at Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU).
The Opening Ceremony was attended by Comrade Phan Van Anh, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Prof. Dr. Huynh Van Chuong, Director General of the Education Quality Management Agency, Ministry of Education and Training, Dr. Som Ratana, Under Secretary of State of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of Cambodia, and leaders from the education ministries of ASEAN countries. Also present were the leadership of the ASEAN University Network-Quality Assurance (AUN-QA), key speakers, and nearly 400 delegates, including leaders from 153 universities, education quality accreditation organizations, and institutions involved in the education sector across ASEAN and various countries worldwide.
From Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU), Dr. Vu Anh Duc, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the University Council, Dr. Tran Trong Dao, Chairman of the Scientific and Training Council and President of the University, along with members of the University Council, the Presidential Board, and all lecturers and staff members were present.
In his opening speech, Dr. Tran Trong Dao, TDTU President, warmly welcomed the delegates attending the Conference and affirmed, “The theme of this year’s conference, Innovating ASEAN Higher Education: Embracing AI Integration, Database Utilization and Future-Ready Quality Culture,” accurately reflects TDTU’s vision in the context of globalization and the rapid development of technology. Co-organizing this conference is an important step for TDTU, affirming our role not only as an educational institution but also as a strategic partner in building and promoting a quality assurance culture in ASEAN.”
At the Opening Ceremony, AUN Executive Director, Dr. Choltis Dhirathiti, shared, “I would like to give my heartfelt thanks to Ton Duc Thang University for hosting this Conference and to the Ministry of Education and Training of Viet Nam for their unwavering support. Your commitment and dedication to higher education quality is clearly evident from the greatly increased activities related to QA throughout recent years and your participation in AUN-QA. We are greatly honored to be able to work alongside you in the pursuit of academic excellence.”
On behalf of the Minister of the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam (MOET), Prof. Dr. Huynh Van Chuong, Director General of the Education Quality Management Agency, Ministry of Education and Training, extended his congratulations to Ton Duc Thang University for the honor of hosting the AUN-QA International Conference 2024 and stated, “I am very pleased and highly appreciate that the AUN-QA International Conference is being held in our country, Vietnam. The conference not only provides an opportunity for ASEAN countries and the international community to share experiences and discuss current and practical issues in higher education management and quality improvement, but it is also an opportunity for Vietnamese higher education institutions to assert their role and commitment to ensuring the quality of education in the region and deepening integration into the world.”
The AUN-QA International Conference, held immediately after the Opening Ceremony, included 7 working sessions over 2 days, with the participation of 31 distinguished key speakers and moderators from 29 top universities worldwide, leading the discussions. On the first day of the Conference, delegates took part in 4 sessions and discussions on the following topics: (i) Going 'All Out': Knockout Strategies for Higher Education Success; (ii) Good Practices in Southeast & East Asia & Australia: Suggestions on Integrating AI with Database for Quality Assurance in Higher Education; (iii) Leveraging AI for Forward-Thinking Quality Standards in ASEAN Higher Education; (iv) Crafting and Utilizing an Effective Database Ecosystem, etc.
To date, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) has had 17 programs accredited by AUN-QA, 15 programs accredited by FIBAA, and 9 programs accredited by ASIIN. In terms of institutional accreditation, TDTU has received the HCÉRES accreditation certificate for the period 2018–2023, as well as the FIBAA institutional accreditation certificate for the period 2024–2030.
The AUN-QA International Conference at Ton Duc Thang University is one of the key events in the University’s development strategy, promoting international integration, training global citizens, and advancing the goal of transforming Ton Duc Thang University into a world-class research university.
