The Closing and Awarding Ceremony of the Vietnam Science and Engineering Fair (ViSEF) for High School Students Held at TDTU
On March 21, 2025, at Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU), the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) held the closing and awarding ceremony of the Vietnam Science and Engineering Fair (ViSEF) for High School Students for the Academic Year 2024-2025.
The ceremony was attended by Dr. Pham Ngoc Thuong - Deputy Minister of Education and Training, Head of the Competition Steering Committee; Dr. Thai Van Tai – Director General of the Primary Education Department, and Deputy Head of the Competition Steering Committee; Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training; along with leaders from various departments and units of the Ministry of Education and Training, members of the Competition Steering Committee, leaders of provincial and municipal Departments of Education and Training, and representatives from relevant agencies and organizations.
On behalf of Ton Duc Thang University, the host institution of the competition, the ceremony was attended by Dr. Vu Anh Duc, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the University Council; Dr. Tran Trong Dao, President of the University; along with members of the Presidential Board and leaders of various affiliated departments and units.
The event also welcomed nearly 500 teachers and more than 400 student contestants from 74 competing teams representing 62 provinces and cities across the country.
Held from March 19 to March 21, 2025, TDTU was honored and proud to be selected as the host institution for the competition. This marks the second time TDTU has been chosen to host the event, with the first being in 2019.
Delivering a speech at the ceremony, the Deputy Minister of Education and Training acknowledged and highly appreciated the thorough, dedicated, professional, and responsible coordination of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee, and especially the host institution, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU). He praised TDTU for providing a modern and well-equipped environment, ensuring meticulous preparation so that all teams and students could participate in the competition with peace of mind. Dr. Pham Ngoc Thuong, Deputy Minister stated “In the history of the competition, this year marks the 13th edition. However, I must say that never before has the competition had such excellent facilities, care, and involvement from the leadership of the host institution as it does this year at Ton Duc Thang University. The competition environment is exceptionally modern, civilized, and welcoming. We are deeply moved and highly appreciate the volunteers, TDTU students, as well as the University’s support staff. Especially, we acknowledge the dedication and leadership of the Chairman of the University Council and the President of the University, along with the University’s lecturers and staff, for their contributions to the competition. We believe this is a clear example of the strong collaboration between general education and higher education, all for the advancement of the education sector”.
According to the Deputy Minister, during this grand event, 401 students from across the country, along with their parents and teachers from their respective schools and provinces, had an invaluable and highly enriching experience in Ho Chi Minh City at Ton Duc Thang University. He emphasized that the students had also achieved significant success throughout the competition.
This year’s competition brought together 212 projects from 74 teams representing 62 out of 63 provinces and cities nationwide. After three days of fair, objective, and highly responsible evaluation, the Organizing Committee awarded 12 first prizes, 36 second prizes, 36 third prizes, 36 fourth prizes, and 92 promising prizes to outstanding and innovative research projects and products.
Notably, on this occasion, to encourage scientific research and support students, Ton Duc Thang University has introduced a special incentive policy for award-winning participants in the competition. Specifically, the University will offer direct admission to students who win First, Second, and Third Prizes, provided they meet the high school graduation requirements. Additionally, the University has announced a scholarship program for students enrolling at TDTU: First Prize winners will receive a 100% tuition scholarship for their first academic year; Second Prize winners will receive a 75% tuition scholarship for their first academic year; and Third Prize winners will receive a 50% tuition scholarship for their first academic year.
Following this, in recognition of outstanding achievements and contributions to the competition, the Ministry of Education and Training issued Decision No. 737/QĐ-BGDĐT on March 20, 2025, awarding the Minister of Education and Training’s Certificate of Merit to two organizations including the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training and Ton Duc Thang University, for their exceptional efforts in organizing the 2024-2025 Vietnam Science and Engineering Fair (ViSEF) for High School Students.
With modern facilities meeting the requirements for hosting large-scale events, TDTU closely collaborated with the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training to ensure all necessary conditions were met for the competition and its accompanying activities to be successfully organized. In addition to providing personnel support for event organization and assisting participating teams, the University prepared comprehensive infrastructure and facilities, including a 1,400-seat auditorium for the opening and closing ceremonies; a sports complex covering over 3,000 m², serving as the exhibition and presentation area for 212 competing projects; a separate, isolated 1,800 m² evaluation area dedicated to the judging process; a science and technology application exhibition area showcasing educational and training innovations in Ho Chi Minh City, featuring 10 exhibition booths across 3,000 m², and among many.
During his visit and supervision of the competition’s preparation and execution, Dr. Pham Ngoc Thuong - Deputy Minister highly appreciated and gave positive feedback on Ton Duc Thang University’s facilities, teaching, and learning environment.
