Fostering  cooperation programs with Pukyong National University, Republic of Korea

On February 11th, 2019, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) and Pukyong National University (PKNU), Republic of Korea, had a meeting at the beginning of the Lunar new year to further expand the comprehensive cooperation between the two universities. Prof. Le Vinh Danh, TDTU President; Dr. Vo Hoang Duy, TDTU Vice President and Dean of the Faculty of Electrical – Electronics Engineering; Prof. Kim Young Seop, President of PKNU, Head of Department of Graduate, and Head of Department of Training; and some other representatives of PKNU attended the meeting.

A brief discussion between both sides was very effective. The two universities have made important conclusions to soon implement enrollment in undergraduate program in a two-phase form (3+1) for Mechanical Engineering major in 2019. For the graduate program, PKNU has highly appreciated the quality of students from TDTU for the last intake, and expected TDTU to provide maximum support to expand the number of postgraduate students from TDTU. These students will receive scholarships from PKNU.

In terms of scientific research, TDTU and PNKU will conduct cooperation to build the Research lab for students in Mechanical Engineering at TDTU in the form of 50% investment of each side to form new research groups to improve the quality of scientific research of the two universities, especially the postdoctoral research program. PKNU also promised to consider transferring an Automation Lab to TDTU as well as to open PKNU affiliation at TDTU as soon as possible.

Prof. Kim Young Seop, PKNU President showed his strong impression on the growth of TDTU and with 2 new construction projects to be put into use in early 2019. Especially, he liked the new Dormitory buildings with facilities optimally equipped for foreign professors working at TDTU as well as for foreign students studying at TDTU.

Pukyong National University is based in Busan City, Republic of Korea's largest port city. This is one of the universities with excellent research capacity in the fields of biotechnology, fishery, cooling technology, ship technology, environmental technology etc. Pukyong is among the top of Korean universities with the highest rate of student employment after graduation. So far, there are four PKNU’s Ph.D. holders belonging to TDTU.
