On December 5, 2018, Busan, South Korea, Pukyong National University (PKNU) awarded an honorary doctorate in Political Science to Ms Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, the Chairperson of the National Assembly of Vietnam.
Korea's largest public university was established in 1996 from the merger of two national universities with long histories, the Busan National University of Technology (established in 1924) and the National Fisheries University of Busan (established in 1941).
PKNU is a sibling university with Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU). On January 10th, 2017, the two signed a comprehensive cooperation agreement in which TDTU was recognized as the main strategic partner of PKNU in Vietnam. Currently, a number of collaborative programs between the two universities have been launched, including co-hosting the annual International Symposium on Advanced Technology Solutions-Theory and Applications (AETA); lecturers and students exchange programs; postgraduate scholarship programs for TDTU teachers, ...; It is expected that in 2019, PKNU will set up a Vietnamese branch based in TDTU to implement two-stage education programs for undergraduate and graduate levels.
