On April 17, 2024, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) organized the Sports Festival of National Defense and Security Education to celebrate the 49th anniversary of the Southern Liberation and National Unification Day (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2024), and the 70th anniversary of the Victory Monument of Dien Bien Phu (May 7, 1954 - May 7, 2024), aiming to commemorate the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Center for National Defense & Security Education at Ton Duc Thang University.
The opening ceremony was attended by Dr. Tran Trong Dao – the President of TDTU, the Director of the Center for National Defense & Security Education, along with members from Departments and Faculties of TDTU, representatives and nearly 1,300 students from Dong Nai University.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Colonel Nguyen Tien Loc – the Deputy Executive Director of the Center for National Defense & Security Education, reaffirmed the importance of physical education and sports activities in the development of each individual and the whole society. Especially for young people, sports activities and physical fitness training help them stay healthy, develop fully in both physical and mental aspects, and be ready to participate in building and firmly defending the socialist fatherland of Vietnam. On the occasion of commemorating the country’s major holidays and approaching the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Center for National Defense & Security Education, the Sports Festival including defense sports such as disassembling AK rifles, long-range grenade throwing, obstacle overcoming, etc. was held.
On this occasion, students from Dong Nai University reported their study results after a month of training and studying at the Center, along with outstanding musical performances and team parades. The Vietnamese Traditional Martial Arts Club of TDTU also contributed to the opening ceremony with a spectacular martial arts performance, showcasing skills and the beauty of martial arts.
Since 2021, the Center for National Defense & Security Education of Ton Duc Thang University has been authorized by the Ministry of Defence to supplement the list of affiliated institutions teaching National Defense & Security Education. Accordingly, the Center has been tasked with teaching and awarding the certificate of completion for the National Defense & Security Education course to students from 22 universities and colleges in Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai province. Until now, the Center has conducted teaching and assessment for over 35,000 students of TDTU and students from affiliated institutions in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry and related authorities.
