Students of Ton Duc Thang University won the Third Prize of the Design Contest "The Dream House 2018"

According to information from the Organizing Committee of the Design Competition "The Dream House 2018", student group of Tai Thi Thu Hang and Nguyen Phuong Linh, Architecture Department, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) has won the Third Prize, the semi-professional category (for students who are studying in the field of architecture - interior, fine arts and design).

Design contest The Dream House is an annual contest organized by Architectural Magazine (Vietnam Association of Architects), Vietnam Young Architects Club in collaboration with Thach Ban Group. The theme of 2018 is "Material inductance in the living space"; focus on architectural solutions and material use in housing design; Special emphasis on solutions to exploit the technical and aesthetic features of Bricks in coordination with other materials. This is the second year TDTU participated in this competition. Among the 15 best options of the semi-professional category, TDTU has 3 nominated works; and one of the three works won the Third Prize.

From the beginning of the courses, the Architecture Department has actively combined training programs with problems in day to day life. Architectural students are given a Course Project that is closely aligned with the topics of life. The final product is highly creative and often meets the specific requirements of each architectural issue that society cares about. At the University, the students gave out 80 different options that they concerned about. Among them, teachers choose 25 best design articles to be submitted for the competition. The design plan of Tai Thi Thu Hang and Nguyen Phuong Linh is a design lesson in a Materials course in architecture for Architecture students in the 3rd academic year.

The unique feature of this work is the creativity in the building's shape, and the use of local materials. The layout of housing space is explored to meet the living habits of local people. Building materials have up to 80% of recyclable, environmentally friendly volumes such as unburnt bricks, coconut basic, bamboo flooring, pressed bamboo boards, cork brick, corrugated iron roofs made from milk cans, ... The author has used simple architectural design strategies to regulate microclimate, limit the use of electrical energy, and make it easier for construction and installation.

About the two young authors: these are students with outstanding academic and operational achievements for many years, with many contributions to the Faculty and Architecture, they have also received scholarships for students with academic achievements. Good result and excellent practice in the 2016-2017 academic year. Phuong Linh has a tradition from the family, won the first prize in the 2014 General Painting Competition (for children of cadres in the Vietnam People's Army).

The winners and instructors will be invited to attend the Award Ceremony on April 20, 2019 on the occasion of the National Young Architects Festival held in Vung Tau City.
