Professor Nguyen Thoi Trung gives lectures and collaborates in research in the United States

Professor Nguyen Thoi Trung, Director of Institute for Computational Science of Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU), was invited to give lectures for graduate students and to collaborate in research at Old Dominion University (the United States).

This program is one of the teaching and research collaborative activities between TDTU and Old Dominion University (ODU) for fostering further/future teaching and research collaborations of both TDTU and ODU.

Established in 1930, ODU is a public research university of the United States. ODU was ranked 601-800 by THE World University Rankings 2018. With over 24,000 students, ODU is one of the largest universities in Virginia contributing over $2 billion annually to Virginia’s economy.

Professor Nguyen Thoi Trung shared his feeling of this collaborating program: “This visit is a very useful opportunity to foster collaborations in teaching (graduate level) and research between the two universities, especially for the doctoral program in Computational Science which has just been started at TDTU in 2018. In addition, this is also a good opportunity for me to experience directly online distance learning technologies as well as to learn and apply efficient parallel computing methods on high performance computing systems at ODU”.

Professor Nguyen Thoi Trung also emphasized: “It is truly honor for me to be invited to collaborate in teaching (graduate level) and research at ODU. Within possibly limited conditions in Vietnam for scientific activities, if Vietnamese scientists do research in accordance with international standards, there will be no obstacles for them to collaborate with colleagues around the world. The research environment at TDTU is in line with international standards and facilitates the integration of the international research environment. I feel proud to be a researcher of TDTU. I hope in the future, there are more scientists of TDTU to collaborate in teaching and research with prestigious universities in the world”.

Professor Nguyen Thoi Trung is a Research Full Professor of Ton Duc Thang University, and Director of the University’s Institute for Computational Science. He obtained his PhD degree in Mechanical engineering from National University of Singapore (ranked 91st by ARWU). Up to now, he has published over 110 papers in ISI-indexed journals. His work has been influential, with his Scopus H-index being 36 and 4330 citations. In 2017, he was honored Lifetime Achievement Scientist at Ton Duc Thang University Scientific Prize Ceremony (TDTU Prize 2017).
