Ton Duc Thang University students’ achievements at 30th SEA Games

The 30th South East Asian (SEA) Games is taking place in the Philippines. Up until 8 December 2019, Student athletes from Faculty of Sport Science of Ton Duc Thang University (TDTU) won a total of 7 medals, including: 2 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 3 bronze medals.

In freestyle poomsae-mixed team, five athletes, including Nguyen Ngoc Minh Hy, Chau Tuyet Van, Hua Van Huy, Nguyen Thi Le Kim and Tran Ho Duy scored 7,799 points and won gold. Philippines as the host team won the silver medal with 6,866 points and Indonesia won a bronze medal with 6,799 points.

Meanwhile, in freestyle poomsae – individual female, Nguyen Thi Mong Quynh who won the gold medal, scored 7,433 points and excelled among other athletes such as Oliva Janna Dominique of the Philippines with 6,766 points and Laosoongnearn Sakuna of Thailand with 6,599 points.

TDTU sent 12 athletes to the National Taekwondo Team to represent in the SEA Games. The poomsae team has 11 members, namely Chau Tuyet Van, Nguyen Thi Le Kim, Nguyen Thi Mong Quynh, Nguyen Thi Kim Ha, Le Tran Kim Uyen, Ngo Thi Thuy Dung, Nguyen Ngoc Minh Hy, Tran Ho Duy, Le Thanh Trung, Nguyen Thien Phung and Hua Van Huy. In combating, there is the athlete Pham Dang Quang.

By the end of 8 December 2019, specific achievements of TDTU student athlete participants are as follows:

  • Gold medal for poomsae-mixed team catgegory : Chau Tuyet Van, Nguyen Thi Le Kim, Hua Van Huy, Tran Ho Duy, Nguyen Ngoc Minh Hy;
  • Gold medal for freestyle poomsae – individual women’s category: Nguyen Thi Mong Quynh;
  • Silver medal for freestyle poomsae – individual men’s category: Nguyen Ngoc Minh Hy;
  • Silver medal for standard poomsae – men’s team category: Nguyen Thien Phung, Le Thanh Trung;
  • Bronze medal for standard poomsae – individual women’s category  medal: Le Tran Kim Uyen;
  • Bronze medal for standard poomsae – women’s team category: Ngo Thi Thuy Dung, Le Tran Kim Uyen and Nguyen Thi Kim Ha.

Pham Dang Quang is going to compete in the final countervailing competition on December 9, 2019, with the great hope to gain more achievements for TDTU and Vietnam.
