Seminar: "Bilingual education - effective activities to practice at home"

On the morning of February 16, 2019, Vietnam - Finland International School (VFIS) of Ton Duc Thang University held a seminar on "Bilingual education - effective activities to practice at home" presented by Ph.D. candidate, MA. Tong Thi Thu Huong. The seminar attracted the attention of a large number of parents who have children in school age, with the desire to help their children develop both thinking and language. At the same time, parents can gain more experience in raising children and bilingual practice.

At the seminar, the presenter provided a lot of information to help parents better understand the language, monolingual, bilingual concepts and the way that the brains of young children receive bilingual right from a very young age. Many research findings have shown that access to a second language in parallel with native language for young children should be started as soon as possible. Therefore, the presenter also offered methods to help parents practice bilingual for their children.

Besides analyzing practical issues of bilingual teaching and learning in the world in general and in Vietnam in particular, the presenter also presented specific factors that help children adapt and appropriately approach bilingualism. The seminar also brought parents different instructions how to practice bilingualism. The presenter also introduced opportunities to nurture and educate children in a bilingual environment in Vietnam.

The discussion was exciting with specific questions from parents throughout the session and detailed explanation by the presenter. At the end of the seminar, participants gained a lot of useful knowledge and expected to attend similar events in the future.
